A Pictorial Tribute

to Burney Chapman

Published in the January 2000 Issue of Anvil Magazine

Publishers Note: The slides on the following four pages were given to me by Burney Chapman in 1984 while I was an instructor of farrier science at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. During that time, Burney had stopped by the college and, in his usual generous manner, gave a presentation to my students using approximately 100 slides, including these. He left them with me with permission and encouragement to use them in any way I saw fit, as long as they would contribute to the well-being of the horse. The slides represent a compilation of Burney's work and the work of other researchers with whom he was associated, including Dr. Chris Pollitt (see article on page 34 in this issue of ANVIL Magazine.) Over the years I did use them for instructional purposes and now, as a tribute to Burney, we are publishing them in the pages of ANVIL Magazine as a collage.

These photos will be posted on our Internet site, anvilmag.com. We would appreciate input, either by phone call, letter, or email, from any of our readers who may have their own ideas about these slides or would just care to comment. We will caption them on our Web site with whatever comments our readers submit. By doing so, we hope to increase our collective knowledge and ability to assist the horse, as Burney would have intended.
